Daly Waters, Mataranka and Katherine NT.

(Note:  click on photo's to enlarge)

Hi once again from us here in the Northern Territory, since Daly Waters we have stayed at a few places purely for the enjoyment of being here anyway I digress.

3 days at Daly Waters Pub CP
Main Street DW
 DW pub
Inside DW Pub
Dinner was great  with our good friends Errol & Lyn
although not much time to be with, the time we had was great, we listened to some general sing along and some Chicken man jokes, as we had dinner there last year we didn't bother this year.as it is always the same Beef & Barra.
Following are some photo's from DW and a visit to the WWII airstrip currently still in use by the wealthy visitors to DW who fly in.

After DW we headed for Mataranka and camped at 12mile Camp Ground

Elsey National park, we where going to stay for 2 nights ended up staying for 8, here you have Showers, fresh water, free fire wood at only $6.60 a night per person (mind no power).

Roper River

Spot of fishing only had one bite think the burra either don't like me or the plastic lure, think it might be me.

We swam a lot in the Springs, Mataranka Homestead,
walked a little, made fires and generally enjoyed just being there. (Guess what, the bikes still havent come of the back)

Elsey Cemetery where the film We of the Never Never was made

Sunset with the Rain clouds

Then came the rain

at a guess we got approx 20 mills overnight this certainly left  deep water puddles and at onetime the road was probably 10 centimeters under water luckily the water drains of very quickly here, and we where high and dry anyway.
A visitor during the rain
Rain All gone and the Temp is 28 with very high humidity

Then Katherine as we ran out of things to eat, no shops at Mataranka unless you want to spend a little fortune on food,
Did a little shopping, wow $450 for a new tyre ( Melbourne same Tyre $280),that we damaged at Palm Valley in Alice but you have to expect these things when you go off  road.

A little sightseeing i.e Victoria River after the rain flowed fast and wild,

Springvale Homestead, with its large Rain Trees

Finally got to see the Cy-cads garden
as last year they where closed, this was nice to walk through and that was Katherine.

Moved South yesterday 4th June and are back at Mataranka but this time at the Homestead CP

The springs early morning with steam rising,

we will be leaving here tomorrow morning with a stop at Daly Waters and then to Mount Isa.

It will be a while before the next installment probably nothing till the end of the month as the territory we are traveling was covered last year

So till then Catch you,

S & B
