Cairns, Now a metropolis in the north of Queensland, it now has wide streets, Industry everywhere and feeds on tourism sad, 20 years ago, it was a pleasant place to visit Night market is still going but sells only souvenirs and food, day market is fresh veg and inexpensive.

Cairns Foreshore Low tide
Cairns has no beach due to the tide dropping so low that the water recedes so far and it becomes mud flats, so a pool with beach for the kids has been built right on the foreshore and can be used by every one who wants a swim

A visit to Copperlode Falls Dam is worth while, the drive is 16Ks all up hill as the dam is on the table land, this dam supplies Cairns and surround,we had a nice lunch here and a  nice walk to the intake and the dam wall and spill way.

Barron Gorge great for rafting

Kuranda, 35 Ks from Cairns climbing up into the Table Lands  to get there either by Train, Cable Car or like us, we drove, this place is souvenirs, arts and craft and food, (really my scene ha), but you can walk and spend anything from 2-3 hours, it is interesting as there must be 100 stores here. Then of-course there is the Railway station very picturesque as there are ferns and plants everywhere.

Cooktown is now accessible by made road and has quiet a bit to offer  and well worth a visit gee I sound like travel agent here are some photo's:
